Race 1: I am taking a shot with Miss Cobblestone who had a try at this distance. She is coming off a sad effort in last but three back she ran against good company. I am hoping the keeneland surface will open her lungs and move her forward. Wasatch comes in off a break and gets lasix...she draws Johnny V in irons and will be on the lead playing catch me if you can. Dickinson was bet down to favoritism last time but lost rider....should be ready to move forward.
Race 2: Ari's Pride finished off the board last time but the company was probably a little stiff..returns to dirt and the pilot sticks. Hey Cuz comes to the party off a nice win and several in the money finishes. He kept soft company over the last few but this group is not impressive. Paden has done some good work prior to taking a break in December. He has been going well in the mornings and maybe ready to start off the year right.
Race 3: Tasseography has done nothing since breaking her maiden... she has kept lovely company and stretched out in last three..today the relief and distance will help her be prominent and the price is right. White Clover is another who tested deep waters in last effort and will come back to earth with this effort. She will be sitting close waiting to pounce. Sweetgrass will be the one to beat based on paper but anything can happen once the gates fly..will take money.
Race 4: Greely's Striker comes in from a break and I am banking that she is ready to fire with a drop in class. In the money six out of eight starts and the Fairgounds leading rider takes the call. Prospector d'Oro dueled and faded in first start. she will be stronger second time around if allowed to settle on or near the lead. Brush Up goes from turf to dirt and gets some more furlongs to work with...she should appreciate the dirt.
Race 5: Sweet Corinna runs for the Mark Casse barn whose runners has done great work over the Keeneland strip in the past. She broke maiden in first start..lost rider in second effort and came back to run a decent second ..she has taken on the TakeCharge Brandi types but didn't fear well..today she cuts back in distance..jockey/trainer combo has done lovely work together and the company maybe to her liking. Thunder Bay rolls into the allowance spot after breaking maiden last out in style...sometime off and has had some steady moves..should be in the mix early. Kathballu is a horse that I played last out. She was coming on late beaten five lengths by the winner..second start off break and the extra ground will be to her liking.
Race 6: Awesome Sky has done nothing wrong since taking to the turf..he would've been closer to winner with a cleaner trip..cuts back to mile distance which should make him more stronger in the lane. Melville exits the same party has Awesome Sky and he didn't pickup his feet in his first start off layoff..will be ready to roll second off layoff and should be on or near the lead. Woodfield Springs comes into this spot off a break..last effort was in stakes company and was over his head..has a good showing over the Keeneland lawn in one try and should be competitive in this spot.
Race 7: Abdaar... Chad Brown and Castellano are deadly on any type and any where in the country...drills are steady and lovely for the son of Hard Spun..lasix for debut..Hard Spun can get short or long. How About Him could be saying how about me when crossing the wire..first start was down inside..draws outside and could have clear sailing to wire..price will be right. Boone Station looks ready to roll for barn who knows how to get them ready.
Race 8: a good betting race if you are not in love with fave... Transparent will probably go off as the fave based on last two and who the company was..three back ran big number and this spot is weaker than anything he has faced. Catholic Cowboy could be the main danger to the top choice..beaten soundly last out but like with top choice this group is a relief. Class leader is the price play in this group..hoping this one will improve enough to bolster trifecta..I am passing on two obvious ones who will take some money.
Race 9: This is a strong running of the Transylvania..favoritism will be between the four best horses in the field. A Lot from the Mott barn won like a good thing last out and while he is up against some good runners today he may show that he wants to be special. Night Prowler is another with tons of upside..disappointed me last time..had some issues and should improve with an improve ride from jock who sticks. Divisidero broke maiden at a price and in lovely fashion two back..I had to reread my program after that win..played him next out and he ran decent.. second against winners and while this is another tough class test he should give a good account of himself. Luck Of The Kitten will try to take them as far as he can and if "big Money Mike" is allowed to put them to sleep then it could be lights out..coming off break after making good impression in Breeders Cup..wouldn't surprise me for top spot but taking the horses with recency.
Race 10: Chucks Turn last time ran on off track and was well beaten..this class of horses are the ones that like to go up and down and not forward...thinking that he can do some lovely work but will have to overcome the morning line fave Moonlit Meteor who is just a consistent runner of late. Da Don I am hoping can catch a piece of the pie..third start of the year..getting away from the Tampa dirt.
